Onancock Harborfest
Photos by BurnhamVirginia.com Onancock Harborfest is an annual celebration of our waterfront. Residents and visitors come for music, food and a variety of water-related fun. Harborfest is held on the second Friday and Saturday in September each year -- which is September 10th and 11th in 2010.
There are free concerts both days. This year we have four "headliner" bands! The US Navy Fleet Forces Band, Mercy Creek, QuadPod, and Southbound. The US Navy Fleet Forces Band is the largest of the Navy's 10 fleet bands. It is the musical representative for the Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command in Norfolk. We are very fortunate to have this band at Harborfest. Mercy Creek spun into the national airwaves with the release of their album, Bonfire of Vanities. Based in Virginia, Mercy Creek is successfully paving their own road playing a brand of music they call aggressive folk rock. A two piece live act, (singer/guitarist Cheryl Nystrom, and song writing partner/drummer Jim Ball), the band uses elements of modern folk, world beat, rock, and hints of blues and bluegrass to create a unique sound. Have lunch and dinner at Harborfest! All your favorite festival foods will be available, including seafood. Onancock restaurants will be among the many vendors. The Watershed Walk offers kids fun and maybe some learning opportunities too. It fills the Town Square. We will also have a children's craft tent, a rock-climbing wall, and other fun stuff. The Great Paper Boat Race is a fun challenge that anyone can join. Build a boat out of cardboard, climb in and paddle to the finish line! Cash prizes for adult and youth divisions. Here are the rules and entry form. Other activities at Harborfest include the popular Rubber Duck Race, kayak/canoe race, antique car show and horseshoe tournaments. On Friday, kick-off your Harborfest fun by enjoying the 2nd Friday Art Stroll, then come to the wharf for a concert. See more art on Saturday at the art show. Don't forget to buy your limited-edition Harborfest t-shirt. Get yours early. Schedule of Events: Friday, September 10 Saturday, September 11 |
