Paint Onancock! Plein Air

The raindrops on Oct 1st did not deter 15 intrepid artists as they set up easels and set out to capture the town of Onancock on canvas for the first Paint Onancock! Plein Air. The stellar fall weather of Thursday through Saturday was the perfect accompaniament to the collection of fine art that was created and displayed and then enjoyed by so many locals and visitors.

Jack Richardson 1st prizeFollowing two days of work, the freshly painted art, 33 pieces in all, was delivered to the gallery by noon on Oct. 3rd, where it was judged by acclaimed artist John Brandon Sills. The results are as follows: First Prize ($100) to Jack Richardson of Onancock for "Ker Place", Second Prize ($75) Mary Bickford of Baltimore for "House by Davis Oil Company, Third Prize ($50) Willie C. Crockett for "Onancock Wharf". Honorable Mention awarded to: Eileen Weber of Locustville for "Creek View: Tweedie's Yard", Dan Lawrence of Onancock for "Up in the Air at the Carnival Grounds" and Isobel Troutman of Greenbackville for "Tweedie's Backyard".

The art was displayed at the Red Queen Gallery and gardenART on King St during First Friday, October 3rd, where guests gathered for a reception to view and purchase the new creations, meet the artists and mingle with friends. Many of the original works were sold on Friday evening and Saturday. The artists themselves selected their pick for Artist Best in Show during the evening; that award ($100) went to Willie C. Crockett for "Fishing Boats at Onancock Wharf".
