Onancock Christmas Homes Tour and Music Festival
Experience the magic of the holiday season at this year's 14th annual Onancock Christmas Homes Tour and Music Festival. On Saturday, December 14, 2013, Homes Tour hours are 2 to 6 pm and Music Festival hours are 3 to 6:30 pm. Sponsored by the Onancock Business and Civic Association, the homes tour will showcase six historic residences and the new Onancock Harbormaster's building. Enjoy these homes adorned in their Christmas finery and experience the holiday music emanating from the Historic Cokesbury Church as you stroll or ride around this lovely waterside town.
Each home has its own distinctive charm. Some have unique histories to explore. This year, three of the homes are residences of local artists and offer visitors the opportunity to view art exhibited in the artists' personal spaces.
As well as touring homes, ticket holders will be able to visit Ker Place, the Naomi Makemie Presbyterian Church, and Historic Cokesbury Church all filled with lights, greenery, and seasonal decorations. A free shuttle around town will be available.
The fine homes on this year's tour are:
* A ca. 1902 Queen Anne-style Victorian, returned to a single family residence from its previous incarnation as two apartments. Total interior and exterior renovation over seven years retained nearly all the now-gleaming original woodwork. Decorative highlights include paintings and other artwork created by the owners, their family members, and local artists.
* A stately federal-style, ca. 1940's. This home the is residence of one of Onancock's most noted artists and showcases his distinctive touch and work.
* A ca. 1940's colonial home, situated in a beautifully-landscaped setting. Creative flair and inspired style shine forth in every room of this lovingly-restored Mt. Prospect home. Enjoy the panoramic views of the creek that this home offers.
*A charming "Victorian Lady" facing the town square and backing onto a spectacular stretch of the creek. This traditional home is an outstanding example of the residential architecture of the early 1800's in Onancock.
* A large, gracious brick center hall home built ca. 1925. Anticipate delightful surprises in one of the most unique homes on this year's tour. Over two years of meticulous, detailed restoration of many original features has made this a sparkling showplace with an elegant 3-storied front staircase, arched glass-fronted corner cupboard and matching built-in cupboard, butler's pantry, and much more.
