TOWN COUNCIL MEETINGS

Summary of February Town Meeting:

Town Council Meeting 02/23 was moved to March 4 due to weather. Thelma and Javon with the OBCA requested money to add 3 park benches, 3 picnic tables (1 ADA accessible), 2 garbage cans and cement pads to install these for The North East Park. This is part of a larger request $35,000 that includes further improvements to upgrade the park & neighborhood. TC did not pass the request. It is under consideration as they determine the money available to this years budget.

OMS (Main Street) requested two grants (matching-20K and 40K

HRSD: there is some confusion as to who owns the sewer collection system in town. HRSD said they own the sewer treatment plant, not the pumping stations, the pipes, or the land they’re located on. 

An engineering firm was engaged to assist with Onancock School renovations.

1.5 million of Onancock Financial reserves were noted as missing. The Town Manager located 5,128.950 million in Virginia Investment Pool ( long and shorter term investments).

FYI: the chipper is fixed! Remember to thank our town helpers for their hard work on grinding up all the fallout from the big storm!

Planning Commission Meeting first monday @6PM. The Planning commission has been working on a master plan addressing zoning, operational and environmental issues. The public is invited to their working sessions and meetings.

NOTE This year; 2026  there will be 4 open seats for Town Council and to be the Mayor of Onancock.
