TOWN COUNCIL MEETINGS

Summary of April Town Meeting:

*HOS Onancock School yearly presentation by Cory Kavulich

*Chris Carbaugh requested more Onancock town water for two more developments off Market Street, approximately 250 units. Concerns were raised by both the council and during public comment. This was passed to the  planning commission for consideration.

*Proposed tax increase of 1 cent to .20 per $100. There will be additional meetings on this.

*New Town Manager announced; Wes Wootten. He has experience managing two west coast towns near the Oregon/Washington state border.

*Appointment of EDA member Scott Schreiber.

*Task order $5100. to create a bid package HVAC for the School passed.

*Planning Commission; North East neighborhood may become a separate African American Historic area, pending exploration by an archaeologist and further research. 

*Discussion on Mosquito Spraying issue; TC members and public raised concerns. Town is collaborating with a Northampton County Virginia Cooperative Extension Rep on plan that will reflect best practices of integrated mosquito management to the degree possible, along with distribution of Dunks.

*HRSD water meters are done. 

*Chipper is working.

*Requests for a forensic audit of past town books were raised.

*To complete the Sunset Park project, initiated with ARPA funding, TC Ann Quigley proposed 3 benches and protective pylons for the wharf area passed. ($10K cost)

*A request for crosswalks downtown was offered.

Planning Commission Meeting first monday @6PM. The Planning commission has been working on a master plan addressing zoning, operational and environmental issues. The public is invited to their working sessions and meetings.

ELECTION YEAR 2026

NOTE This year; 2026  there will be 4 open seats for Town Council and to be the Mayor of Onancock. The OBCA will sponsor a canadate forum. Register by June 15, 2026.
